Swisslog signs $21m logistics automation project

Logistics automation specialist Swisslog has signed a contract with UAE water-bottling company Mai Dubai for the automation of storage and distribution logistics for a $21m expansion project set for completion in 2020.

With the completion of the expansion project, Mai Dubai’s new facility will stand 25m tall with a storage capacity of 17,560 pallet locations, with another raw material/packing material warehouse standing 14m tall with 5,592 pallet locations.

Swisslog Vectura pallet stacker cranes, connected via a conveyor system, will provide highly efficient storage and retrieval for the project, while a monorail system with 44 Swisslog trolleys and a combined length of 1km will link all the areas of the facility together.

“Aside from significantly improving the efficiency of our operation, the project will enable us to remain competitive in the market long-term, and will open up opportunities to grow our business further in the future,” said Jay Andres, CEO of Mai Dubai.

“In our mission statement we talk about maintaining an innovative, safe, efficient and happy work place, and we’re confident Swisslog is the right partner to support us with this mission.”

Mai Dubai’s commercial operations began in March 2014 and have been growing quickly ever since as the brand has developed into a serious player in the UAE bottled water industry.

in 2015, Mai Dubai was the only bottled water company to be given the highest rating in food safety by the Dubai Municipality, and the company is the official drinking water supplier for Emirates Airline and exports its products to more than 13 paesi.

Frédéric Zielinski, GM of Swisslog Middle East, noted: “We are extremely proud to have Mai Dubai as a customer. What makes this partnership special is the synergy between the vision and values of Swisslog and Mai Dubai.

“As our presence in the Middle East expands, Swisslog is fully committed to supporting the growth of regional businesses. We have many more projects in the pipeline and we are continually receiving requests from local businesses.”

Swisslog delivers integrated automation solutions for warehouses, and distribution centres from consulting through to design, implementation and lifetime customer service. Behind the company’s success are 2,500 employees worldwide – supporting customers in more than 50 countries.
